UpRiver Bible Church is made up of individuals well acquainted with the brokenness and pain of life. Yet we find ourselves bound together by God’s great love for us in His Son, Jesus Christ. Because of what He has done for us, in Jesus, we WORSHIP Him. Through faith in Christ’s work on the cross we BELONG; we are a part of God’s family.
He has made Himself known to us through His Word, the Bible. As we GROW in our understanding of who God is we are motivated to SERVE our fellow Christians as well as the community around us.
Being changed, little by little, through God’s transforming influence we SHARE His love with our friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers that they may join us in experiencing abundant life in Christ.
CORPORATE WORSHIP (Everyone together for a time of covenant refreshing and renewal)
Our worship services reflect the working of the Gospel through which God has made us His own, through faith, by grace. Each aspect of our worship service reflects an aspect of the Gospel's work in our lives.
Call to Worship- God calls us to worship Him, reflecting the work of regeneration as He draws us to Himself.
Confession - Having been called, and coming face-to-face with a holy and righteous God, we are faced with our sinful condition and are brought to confess our sins to Him, seeking His Pardon, and receiving His forgiveness. This is much the same as our practice of putting a doormat at the entrance of our homes, so that we can clean our feet before entering. Taking time for corporate confession allows us to enter into the rest of our worship time cleansed and ready to receive the powerful Word of God in the Scriptures.
Consecration- Here is a time where we are set apart to learn more of God through the reading of the Scriptures, taking our needs and intercessions to Him in corporate prayer, and hearing and responding to the preaching of the Word of God.
Communion - This is the pinnacle of our worship service, where believers are invited to feast at the Lord's Table, partaking in the grace imparted to every believer through the observance of this sacrament of bread and cup.
Commissioning - Having been called, cleansed, consecrated, and communed, we are then commissioned to leave this time of gathered worship and covenant renewal and go out into our community and live for the glory of God and the growth of His Kingdom.
BELONG
Being a Christian means being a part of God’s family. Families live together, love one another (even through rough times), defend one another, encourage one another, and serve one another. Family sticks together. At UBC we call this community… living with, loving, caring, serving, encouraging one another. We encourage everyone at UBC to make a commitment to community through a membership covenant. (Click on the link for copy of our membership brochure).
GROW
Learning to love God above all else is our goal. His greatest commandment is to love Him with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength (Mark 12:28-31). We do this by becoming intimately acquainted with Him through His Word, the Bible. This is accomplished by personal study and prayer as well as regular participation in small group studies. UBC has various small groups that meet regularly to help you GROW. These include, but are not limited to:
At various times other resources are made available to help you grow in your relationship with God, learning to love Him because He loves you.
SERVE
Imitating Christ’s example of humbly serving those around him, each person at UBC is invited and encouraged to use their God given gifts and talents to serve those around them.
SHARE
When we begin to understand what God has done for us by reconciling us to Himself through His Son Jesus Christ the proper reaction is an outpouring of gratitude. Secondly, we should be drawn to tell others about this great gift that God has given us in Jesus Christ. God tells us in His Word that we have been given by God the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:17-19). It is our privilege and duty as Christians to SHARE the good news of Jesus Christ with all those around us.
